Kajo
"They were undoubtedly beautiful; an oval face with soft features and a prominent nose, heavy-lidded eyes, uneven hair falling over naked shoulders."
A former devil ascended into godhood upon death hundreds of years ago. Known as the Morning Star in the Beyond or as Dawnbringer in the Hells. Resides in their own realm within the Beyond and rarely visits the mortal realm. Kajo is well-known for harbouring a deep-seated loathing for all of devil-kind, though they do nothing to hide their origins.
Though able to shapeshift at will like all gods, Kajo retains their true form most of the time. They bear the appearance of a tall devil with large, leathery wings and a long tail. Their horns are tall, slightly curved, and somewhat asymmetrical. Unlike hellnings, a devil’s horns never stop growing, and their right horn grew back slightly crooked after being snapped off in combat. Their skin is blush pink, their hair just a shade darker and their eyes purple, giving off an eerie, iridescent gleam when agitated or using magic. Only their eyes and voice remain unchanged when they shapeshift; in the mortal realm their shadow reveals their true form.
Though a god, Kajo is not well-known to mortals and does not actively seek followers, making them elusive and hard to reach.
On ascension and the ascended
Minor gods are often referred to as the ascended to distinguish them from the Great Ones - the major gods - who are not of mortal origin. Ascension is a rare event, and the conditions for it are obscure and unknown even to the gods themselves. Some believe it to be random; some consider it a blessing, yet others a punishment, depending on the circumstances surrounding an individual god.
Ascension occurs upon the moment of death, for divinity and mortality cannot reside within the same physical vessel. Once ascended one can never become mortal again, and though the powers of the ascended do not rival those of the Great Ones, they too are immortal.
